Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy (VTT) (Finland)

Company description:

VTT is the leading research and technology company in the Nordic countries. VTT has a national mandate in Finland. We use our research and knowledge to provide expert services for our domestic and international customers and partners. We serve both private and public sectors.

We develop new smart technologies, profitable solutions and innovation services. We cooperate with our customers to produce technology for business, build success and well-being for the benefit of society. We work with you to create new products, production processes, methods, and services. VTT ensures efficient utilization of science and technology with the aid of broad international cooperation and networking.

VTT’s separation technologies and capabilities include a range of techniques, IPR, test environments and related expertise to separate your different waste fractions in a form in which they can be used effectively for other applications or disposed of. The techniques range from membrane technologies, electrochemically assisted nutrient recovery to sludge treatment and hydrothermal carbonization. Filtration - and membrane filtration in particular - is seen as one of the main solutions for purifying and recycling water. Our development of robust filtration concepts for different industrial applications also considers pre- and post-treatments and the utilization of residual concentrates.

Role in the project:

VTT develops the step of filtration by combining membranes of different pore size. The use of conventional (MF, UF, NF, RO) and innovative (FO) membrane technologies is contemplated as well as the introduction of fouling controlling options, such as ultrasounds. VTT collaborates with LUR to determine the pretreatment operations required to obtain wastewater suitable as input of filtration step (WP1).
