The Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (FCT) (Nova.id.FCT) is a private non-profit initiative of the FCT/NOVA to promote and facilitate scientific research, technology and development services to society, and to organize qualified human resources training and consulting expertise and knowledge dissemination and technology transfer. The Biochemical Engineering (BIOENG) group at FCT/UNL is the participant research group and is devoted to develop high quality scientific research (both fundamental and applied) in the areas of Environmental and Industrial Biotechnology with main focus on:
- Wastewater Treatment Processes
- Anaerobic Digestion
- Micro pollutants
- Biological Nutrient Removal and Recovery
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Production and Characterization of Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs)
- Microbial Polysaccharides
- Bulk Chemicals
Role in the project:
NID develops the process for the production of PHA by the use of bacterial consortia (WP3). The subtasks to develop are the following:
Selection of the bacterial consortium for the conversion of VFA into PHA
- Microbial characterisation of the selected consortium
- Development of the fermentative process at lab scale
